The first tunnel under the Elbe river was built both for pedestrians and vehicles on behalf of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. There are two horizontal and parallel tubes with a length of 449 m each. The internal diameter is 5.60 m, with 8.0 m distance between the tube axes.
